Make a master book mark! This activity was a chance to get creative, but it also reminded everyone how to look after books. bookmarks helps people remember where they’ve got to without damaging the book. What other materials could bookmarks be made from? People often use leather, ribbon, wood, or plastic. Making a bookmark means people are prepared – they’ll be able to quickly find their way back to the page they were on, and their books will last longer.
Immerse yourself in nature. Camp under the stars. Learn skills to make a difference in your community. Create projects with a real lasting impact. Experience new cultures. Understand the environment around you. Takeover Gilwell is a summer-camp style event with an action-packed programme. You'll work towards achieving new badges that you can’t do on an average Monday night.
Crystallisation, like most scientific experiments, can be difficult to predict. Whose experiments turned out exactly as they thought? Was anyone’s really different? All you need to start crystal growth is one tiny molecule, like a grain or seed, for the crystals to form around. This shows how something impressive can be grown from something small. Can anyone think of any other examples of this? These experiments are a great example of how combining and working together can help us excel!
This everyday adventure is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.
An interactive card memorisation game! How hard was it to remember where each card was after it was turned over again? Were the facts about the different cards interesting and did they make you want to find a particular pair? The facts that the group heard about climate change have serious consequences for our planet. What do the group already know about saving electricity, eating sustainably and using fossil fuel alternatives? Is there more that they could do, like changing their diet or routine, which could help make a difference?
